Q: How do I install shelters over existing piping?
A: FRP/Mocoat shelters are easily installed over existing piping. The most common method is to cut a slot in the building with a slight mitre end. Once the shelter is placed over top of the wellhead or process equipment, the area removed from the slot should be cut underneath the piping and then reinstalled into place using either caulking or sheet metal and self-tapping screws.
Q: My application needs an enclosure that’s taller than 8’ but I don’t need an 11’ round unit?
A: The height of an 8’ conical shelter can be increased to 10’ with one of our 2’ extension rings. This feature is beneficial for areas with large volumes of snow and ice. When you need to lift the shelter on and off the well frequently simply undo the bolts connecting the shelter from the extension ring.
Q: How do I anchor the shelter to the ground?
A: The exterior base flange allows for fastening to various foundations including concrete, steel, wood, asphalt and gravel. Threaded rods (hold down stakes) can be supplied at an additional cost which can be bolted through the flange and into the foundation. Also many customers in low wind areas use sandbags or cover the flange with dirt and gravel as a means to secure it to the ground allowing for easy removal of the shelter if required.
Q: What kind of door hardware comes with the unit?
A: The price includes a standard Whitcomb lockable door latch (note lock not included). For an added cost this can be replaced with push button panic hardware. The Whitcomb latch can be opened from the inside as with push button panic hardware.
Q: How do I move the shelter?
A: The wellhead shelter weighs between 400 –1500 lbs (182 – 680 kg) (depending upon size and options) and has a top mounted lifting lug for ease of handling. For quick access to your application we offer as an option a 3’ diameter wire line roof hatch that can be opened from the outside avoiding the hassle of lifting the unit on and off the well.
Q: Are the shelters insulated?
A: All FRP/Mocoat shelters are double-wall, R-12 insulated for both keeping equipment from freezing as well as adding superior durability..
Q: Do you offer R-12 insulation?
A: We do but our 1” insulation paired with a cata-dyne heater is guaranteed to keep the inside temperature of the shelter above freezing. The sandwich style panels provide complete encapsulation of the foam core resulting in an R value of 12 as well as insulation that will not get wet, break down or delaminate through he life of the shelter.
Q: Whats the smallest size shelter you offer?
A: Our smallest standard stock shelter is an MC 877. We can also provide units as small as 2’ bottom diameter by 2’ high. Please call for more additional details.
Q: What colors do your shelters come in?
A: We primarily have stock in shelters with a desert tan exterior and white interior. The white provides additional light inside the shelter and the tan helps the unit blend in with field crops on site. We have limited stock of forest green shelters on hand as well. At an additional cost, 14 other colors are available upon request. The color is traditionally incorporated into the resin during the manufacturing process so that it won’t chip off over time however the fiberglass can be painted after the shelter has been built increasing the color possibility to thousands.
Q: How do I ship the shelters?
A: Shelters can either be shipped standing or nested. If standing – then they simply are picked up from the truck with the top mounting lifting lugs. Since they are light weight – specialty equipment is not normally required. If the shelters are nested – many shelters can be shipped on one truck, which results in very cost effective transportation.
